Connecting the family over distance

Funny prayer request

This morning in our church worship service our interim pastor opened it up to the congregation to share prayer requests. One little boy (around 10 years old) raised his hand and said, “My mommy’s at home. She’s not feeling well. She has the cramps.” lol!! The pastor played it cool, but the rest of the congregation was trying to hold back an embarrassed laugh. :)

snow!

Ruby and I were in our first snow storm this last friday! We were on our way from my parents in WI to Maple Grove when the storm started. It was kinda scary at first. I saw lots of cars in the ditch including a semi truck. But…it was gorgeous. The trees were heavy with snow and everything was clean white. Ruby was pointing out the window going “ooh, ooh.” We stopped at a gas station and I put a small snow ball in her hand. She thought it was so cool! I can’t wait to make snow men and play in the snow with Ruby this year. I think she will love it! You all should come visit us this winter!

Poll?

So since the results of this poll are officially in, can we get a new poll going??

Family Dieters

Hi ladies,

I was a captive audience on the treadmill when Orpah came on and she had an MD on that had real information about dieting to share.-no fad junk- whole grain carbs only etc.   What NEW info he said was that a women with a 40 inch waist or more is at the same risk of DEATH as a 50 yr is of breast cancer. I immdeiately wanted to measure my waist !!He had a very balanced approach to the whole thing and stressed how muscle uses 2x the calories than fat cells do in a day and even when we are asleep ( I'm all for burning calories when I sleep). He said that lifting weights even just 1x /week consistantly will be heplful . Aerobically, he said walk -DAILY 45min and  1x week for and hour get your heart rate up and SWEAT !! ( You can do it in 3…20 minute sessions also instead). Lastly, he said that when we are depressed our bodies crave carbs but that is doesn't chemically satisfy. What does help is a consistant diet that inculdes  omega 3 fatty acid - fish oils, oil/vinegar dressings, fish,- that good stuff. Suagr carbs actually contribute to depression. SOOO that chocolate is a good mood elevator but the sugar in it is a killer to good mood. Finally, he suggested the GPS approach - Jerry recently bought a GPS device for the laptop in the car for navigation. IF you make a wrong turn - ie go off your diet - the GPS doesn't say "I TOLD YOU LEFT !!", it simply says," at the next available legal turn , make a U turn" Sweetly and with no scolding. So next time the Resse's cup jumps into my mouth , I'll remeber the GPS voice and ,"turn around as soon as possible" Love Nancy/mom
