job update

Well, I thought you'd all want to hear about my interview on monday. I met with the Regional Director for Young Life (she is in charge of North Dakota and MN) at Caribou Coffee at 11 on monday morning. We talked about the position of Area Director for a local high school here in MN. The more we talked the more I thought about Student Venture. I would be doing something VERY similar to what Bob Kline did for us in doylestown, except I wouldn't have to raise all my own salary support. I would be in charge of the volunteers (parents and other supporters) who help out on our once a week big activity. The purpose of the once a week activity, called Club, is to create an environment where teens can come relax, have fun, and begin to ask questions about Christ, Christianity, and God. From there they can get plugged into a small group where they are mentored in a smaller group by one of the volunteers in a Bible Study setting. The goal is to attract kids to Christ that would never really want to hear about Christ in a more "traditional" setting.

One of the cool parts of the job is that YL requires all their staff to take continuing education classes. So by the end of my two year intern program I would receive another Master's certificate. The subject area would vary depending on what classes I decided to take and they would only meet once a month. The best part is I wouldn't have to pay for any of it!! After I completed my intern program I would receive approx. a $10,000 raise in salary which would be sweet!!!

YL, unlike Treehouse, does not intentionally target at-risk teens but it does have other branches of ministry that interact and work with those types of teens so when you compare the two side by side that would be the only big difference. They both follow the same relational model of ministry and target the same age brackets, do summer camps, and want community involvement as well as parent involvement in their ministry.

So, overall I guess right now I would rather do the YL job than the Treehouse job. But right now I'm much further along in the Treehouse interview process so we'll have to see what happens. If both places offered me a job I would take the YL position but if Treehouse offers me a position and YL is not ready/at the point where they can offer me a postion I'm not sure what I will do. Just pray that I will make a God-honoring, wise, and informed decision.

Well, I'll talk to you all later!! Have a great day.

Skit Guys - The Chair

I just uploaded this to Google Video today and thought I’d share it here since most of us in this family work with kids in one way or another (camp, Young Life/Treehouse, youth group, church, home school, etc.).

How Sweet!

Nancy and Ruby

Brianne mailed us the cds of pictures that she took of the wedding. I absolutely love this one and couldn't wait to share it. We'll have the rest of the pictures up later. I love how happy Nancy and Ruby are! And they match in their yellow dresses. :)

Shout out from Cat Spring!

Hi everyone, just wanted to update ya’ll on how life in the country is…so far so good! We love out little house, its very cute, it reminds me of Dan & Maggie’s apartment in PA, in the woods and stuff. (Only the weather is slightly different.) Camp is over and adult retreats have started, our first retreat was last weekend and it went very well for us being a little unprepared. The staff left on Wednesday and the retreat came early on Friday therefore making Thursday a very busy day for both Mary Ellen & myself…not to mention David who we wrangled into helping us out by pressure washing the pool. This week has been relaxing, I am learning the details on the retreats such as contracts and pricing, and we don’t have a retreat this weekend which is probably God’s blessing in disguise because it gives us a little more time to prepare and make sure the facilities are in tip top condition. David is still working in the ER and trying to figure out schooling options. Grizzly is doing well, besides the fleas that come all too often…a direct result from living in the woods, but nonetheless he loves country life as far as we can tell. He told me the other day that he would really like a little brother, but Dad said NO WAY!! Bummer, I guess we will just have to settle for the one yorkie…for now that is…hehe! :) David just recently found out that he has been scheduled to work BOTH Christmas day and Thanksgiving day, so that is total bummer for us and it looks like traveling is out of the question this year…hopefully we will be able to see you all some other non-holiday time this year. Hope all is well with everyone, we love and miss you guys!

Job Possibility

Hi all! Dan found another job opportunity on the internet the other day. It is a ministry called TreeHouse and is located in different locations around the Minneapolis area. Take a look at their website to get a better idea of the organization. Dan has an interview next friday, a week from today. Keep us in your prayers. We are afraid to get our hopes up just in case it doesn’t work out.

Camping at Promised Land

Great site, Tim - thanks for your work on it!  If you didn't read my previous blog, we went camping in the Pines at Promised Land last week.  We bought a tent (14' x 14') which was cheaper than staying in a hotel for 2 nights.  It certainly brought back lots of memories!  We are praying for each of you daily, often several times a day.  Let us know any specific requests you have.  We love you and are very proud of you!   Love, Dad/Jerry

How to post a new entry

Dad had a question about this, so I thought I'd answer it for everyone.

Click "Login" link to the right. After signing in, it'll take you to the admin X-Dashboard. From there click on the "Write" tab at the top. Or, if you're already logged in and looking at the homepage or another post, click on the link "Site Admin" to the right. That'll take you back to the X-Dashboard, too, where you can write a post, manage old posts, and update your profile.

When you click to edit your profile, you'll see a tab at the top called "My Avatar." Click that to add a little picture of yourself to identify your posts and comments like you see with me and Dana's already.

The photo albums should work the same as the last site.

I gotta get to church. Lemme know if you have other questions.

Ready to go!

The site is back on track and ready to be used now! Now everyone can keep in touch again through the site and keep everyone updated with whats going on. I had a wonderful time getting to see everyone in Texarkana. I'm looking forward to the holidays when I can actually spend time with y'all. Jerry and Grace thanks for your pictures. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at everything that went on. :) We're still waiting to get our official wedding pics. No leads on my job right now, so I've been using my time to cook and clean and hang out with Tim on his days off. We just got back from Tim taking me on a date to a really nice Mexican food restaurant in downtown Dallas. Our rice was in a pyramid and we had decorative sour cream on the plate. Real fancy!
